Usage Method
- The base materials and auxiliary materials selected for the project must be tested for adhesion and compatibility, and can be put into use only after passing the test.
- The design and construction of the project must strictly abide by the technical specifications stipulated by the state for relevant projects, and refer to the “GIRAFE 793 Weatherproof Sealant Usage Guide”.
- Air circulation should be maintained during construction and curing environments.
- The bonding surface of the substrate must be cleaned with cleaning solvents such as toluene, xylene or acetone.
- After the glue fills the joints, use a scraper to squeeze further inward to completely fill the joints with glue, and modify the glue surface before it solidifies.
Restriction of Usage
- Cannot be used as a structural sealant
- Cannot be used on all material surfaces that will exude grease, plasticizers or other organic solvents
- Not suitable for use in airtight places, because silicone structural sealant needs to absorb moisture in the air to cure
- Not suitable for use on frosted or damp surfaces
- Not suitable for use on places that are continuously soaked in water or humid all year round
- It is not suitable for construction when the surface temperature of the material is lower than 6°C or higher than 40°C
Features of Exterior Frame Sealant
1. Excellent flexibility
After curing, the product forms an elastomer with a Shore A hardness of 35±5, an elongation at break of 500% (ASTM D412 standard), and can absorb ±25% displacement of building joints (JG/T 475-2015 standard), avoiding sealing failure caused by thermal expansion and contraction or earthquakes.
2. Super Weather Resistance
After 3000 hours of QUV accelerated aging test (ISO 11341 standard), the product’s tensile strength retention rate is >95%, the color difference ΔE is <1.5, and there is no powdering or cracking. Its UV resistance far exceeds that of traditional polyurethane adhesives (usually only 5-10 years), and it can resist the erosion of high salt fog and high humidity environments in coastal areas, reducing the maintenance cost of the entire life cycle of buildings.
3. Universal substrate
It has excellent adhesion to more than 30 substrates such as metal (aluminum, stainless steel), glass (float, Low-E), stone (marble, granite), concrete, etc., with a bonding strength of 1.8-2.5MPa (ASTM C794 standard), and no primer treatment is required.
4. Neutral curing and non-corrosive
The neutral curing system (pH value 7-8) is non-corrosive to sensitive substrates such as metal, coated glass, and electronic components, avoiding metal oxidation or coating shedding problems that may be caused by traditional acidic silicone adhesives. In precision instrument workshops or historical building restoration, the integrity of the substrate can be ensured.
5. Stable from -40℃ to 150℃
After curing, it can maintain flexibility (no brittleness) at low temperatures of -40℃, and will not flow or decompose at high temperatures of 150℃ (ISO 8339 standard), which is suitable for sealing needs in extremely cold areas or high-temperature industrial plants.
Application scenarios of Exterior Frame Sealant
1. Curtain wall system sealing
It is used for perimeter sealing and interlayer fire blocking of glass curtain walls, aluminum curtain walls, and stone curtain walls. Its weather resistance and flexibility can ensure the structural safety of curtain walls under wind pressure and earthquakes, and prevent indoor mildew caused by rainwater penetration.
2. Door and window frame joints
It replaces traditional cement mortar or foam glue and is used for frame and sash joint sealing of aluminum alloy doors and windows and plastic steel doors and windows. Its elasticity can compensate for the deformation of doors and windows caused by temperature changes, avoid air leakage and water leakage, and improve the energy efficiency level of buildings.
3. Roof and parapet joints
Applicable to the joints of metal roofs, concrete roofs and parapets. Its UV resistance can resist long-term exposure of the roof, prevent structural corrosion caused by rainwater backflow, and extend the service life of the building.
4. Historical building restoration
In stone and brick historical buildings, it is used for crack repair and joint sealing. Its neutral curing properties will not damage the original substrate, and can match the color of historical buildings to achieve a “repair the old as it is old” restoration effect.
Cleaning and maintenance of Exterior Frame Sealant
1. Cleaning before construction
Wipe the surface of the substrate with isopropyl alcohol or anhydrous ethanol to remove impurities such as oil, dust, loose particles, etc. For metal substrates, sandpaper should be used to polish to St2 level (ISO 8501-1 standard) to enhance bonding strength; stone substrates must be ensured to be dry (water content <4%) to avoid water stains affecting the sealing effect.
2. Maintenance after curing
Before curing (surface drying time 20-30 minutes, 23℃/50%RH conditions), acetone or special cleaning agent can be used to remove excess colloid; after curing, it needs to be removed by mechanical methods (such as blades) to avoid damaging the substrate; check the sealing parts regularly. If cracks or peeling are found, the old glue needs to be thoroughly cleaned (using a grinder or solvent soaking) and then re-applied.
3. Storage conditions
The product should be stored in a dry, ventilated, and cool place (temperature ≤27℃), avoiding direct sunlight or high temperature environment; the shelf life of unopened products is 12 months. After opening, they must be used up within 1 month and sealed to prevent moisture from entering and causing premature curing; during transportation, avoid tilting or inversion to prevent colloid leakage.
